When your work is not just a task, but a purpose that drives passion and love, reaping inspiration from heart and soul towards that purpose, all in sync with the energy, the outcome of such efforts is exemplary, far more unequalled and happens when it’s your IKIGAI.
The reason for the attainment of the task in nearness to perfection happens in owing to the essence of the joyous soul that influences mind, body and spirit. The efforts towards accomplishment never drain in vain, towards gaining of the focus, rather it triggers best outcome when, “you love what you do, what you do is your love”.
The task itself becomes the cause of joy, motivation and satisfaction, and not the opposite that an external force or an external drive is needed to mask motivation towards the accomplishment of the task to shape in supreme excellence.
They say, when your love is your work, or what you work is your love, people never go tired, exhaust or feel fatigued. There is no withdrawal of self, nor the sense of limits or restrictions on how much and long one can work.
People always feel vitality, motivated and full of enthusiasm to catch accomplishments and goals. There is no sense of time or any thought of deviation when what one is working is out of love or passion.
How one can achieve such inventiveness of soul and spirit to the fulfilment of motive, a life with purpose?
The contemplation to the query leads to the Japanese method of living life, which they called Ikigai. Ikigai is translated as the reason for your being. When one does not live the life out of routine or survival, but the purpose of one’s being is to be happy and cause of happiness for others. Japanese follow ikigai not in personal lives but in there work and the profession as well. They live to be happy and does the work that brings them the fulfillment of joy and meaning, a process that let oneself to blossom.
“People can feel real ikigai only when, on the basis of personal maturity, the satisfaction of various desires, love and happiness, encounters with others, and sense of the value of life, they proceed toward self-realization”. ~ Kobayashi Tsukasa.
The experience of suffering, let people discover meaning, which can be channeled through doing a deed, experiencing a value, and experiencing the suffering of others. If life is not meaningful, one can make out one.
Meaning-making is my purpose, purpose of my being. Purpose of life is not to follow the given rules and regulations to dive into a set output but, to create one. I don’t zeal out in search of meaning but, thrive for meaning-making.
I have experienced, people could discover meaning through doing a deed. Suffering is the best teachers which let one sense the suffering of others and connect to them more. At such time motivation from within to shred bitterness out of life and zeal to sprout strong is the call of the soul.
The soul that watches ways not for self but for others too, of how one can cease the cause of suffering. Experiencing suffering is Experiencing a value of self. The set perspective to make the meaning to each deed forces us to focus on the individuality and the uniqueness of oneself during the turmoil.
The garden to be cultivated, not to count the flowers it bears but to rejoice the beauty, lighting up a dark room so not to escape of darkness but to rejoice that light, building up the foundation not to fill the pit but to build huge and strong construction, moulding clay not to deform the soil but to get beauty out of it, the sole principle human spirit fight for is its being, an implication of all learning leads to one being, creation of good.
Sameness in the outcome but of different nature with different perspectives, the garden will bear flowers but of different colours, the darkness will vanish to light the room of different size, clay will mould to different designs, construction will happen but of different floors level, all embedded in the sameness of creation but with the difference of perception.
The different boundaries or the limits are limiting due to the limited knowledge of an individual. But mind moulds due to suffering and triggers to meaning-making of every happening, by default triggering the phase of learning, and thus escapes limitation. There is no end to the educative process of meaning-maker, says Neil Postman.
Making meaning, a reason for getting up in the morning is IKIGAI.
Ikigai contributes to longevity and youthfulness of a soul as it’s not about, purpose to live, however, is about “PURPOSEFUL LIFE”, says Dan Buettner, after his research on People who lived the longest.
How to find your IKIGAI?
To find your ikigai, you have to list out ;What you value the most? What do you like to do?What you are good at, that you can be paid for, or something that could transform into jostle?
The cross section of these three elements reflects your IKIGAI.
Joseph Campbell the American mythologist stated, I suggest to my students, “Follow your bliss.” Find where it is, and don’t be afraid to follow it.” Since the dawn of time, humans have lusted for material life and desires, and they toll for a relentless pursuit of money and fame, many humans feel an unknown urge of something bigger, a sense of dissatisfaction in this material world of wealth and that is the core of meaningfulness in life. Different words emphasis to this practice of listening back to the core of life, ie ” meaningfulness in life”.
Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles, the authors of the book,” Ikigai; The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life”, mention following few factors to consider and practice that helps to understand oneself better and so helps anyone find their own ikigai.
1. Get rid of the urge of urgency to adopt a slower pace of life. 2. Stay active anyhow, even in the mental state of depression, don’t retire. 3. follow a healthy lifestyle. A healthy diet, follow an exercise regime, stay in the company of good friends. 4. Smile and acknowledge people around you.5. spend more time in closeness to nature. 6. live in the moment. 7. Pamper your curiosity, what you deeply care about can unlock your IKIGAI.8. Follow your IKIGAI.
Invoke your IKIGAI!
The crux is what’s revive your spirit and fill you with enthusiasm, do it. It’s not what the world needs, but what makes you come alive, do it.It is not less than the life of a slave to wake up every day to run the race of survival. To fit in the system to earn a living to place bread on the table at night.
The problem for people is that their routine consumes their curiosity about new experiences as the people are so tied up of responsibilities that they forget to breathe the breath of peace, rush for life builds up a sense to escape, into wonderment. But Invoking IKIGAI can change this, especially if one is looking for meaning and fulfillment in what they do daily.
Saddest I feel for those who wander and are unaware of the value of their own, not awaken to the calling of the soul. Not knowing what one is needed to do, every hour is heavily on the soul. What can bring fulfillment to life goals? What can excite one’s mind, body and soul to find the reason, the reason of your being? What excites their spirit? What makes them lose the sense of time? What can brings out the best in them?
The simple thing that you could do or be like, is the expression of your IKIGAI. Curioucity and institutions are the compass and sources of the soul that helps us to connect with our IKIGAI. Find it and pursue it with all you have, anything less is not worth your limited time on planet earth.
I was always at unrest and in a confused state of mind, being uncertain that fuels frustration, that sprouts for the conflicting worldly desires that come along with money, on the other hand, live a life of meaning and consequence. This war within me is quenched with a concept called “Enlighted Entrepreneurship”, that cease the contradictory goals. I can see Ikigai is the refined version of this concept, simply the reason to wake up every morning. Finding balance in between joy, fulfillment and necessity while on the routine of life is IKIGAI.
Suffering and grieve awaken the soul and it sets spirit on the search of the meaning of life, the meaning of your being, and its fulfillment. Ikigai makes it possible to be present in the material world still true to your passion and live a mindful life of moments which are the source of everlasting peace and happiness.
If you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open the doors to you.~Joseph Campbell (The Power Of Myth)
